Your first steps
- Seek medical attention or contact emergency services.
- A post-mortem examination will be arranged, and the required documents issued.
- Please contact Bestattung Wien—we will handle the transfer to the mortuary and organise the next steps for you.

At a hospital, care home, or hospice
Your first steps
- The on-site staff will handle the initial necessary steps.
- Once you have been notified, please contact Bestattung Wien.
- We will handle all further organisational arrangements for you.

Abroad/repatriation
Death abroad
- In the event of a death abroad, relatives are informed through the relevant diplomatic mission (embassy).
- Please contact Bestattung Wien—we will organise the necessary arrangements (such as dealing with the authorities, the embassy, repatriation, etc.) on your behalf.
Repatriation
Bestattung Wien will manage all the necessary steps for repatriation to Vienna. This includes contacting the relevant authorities at the place of death, organising the repatriation to Vienna, and arranging and conducting the funeral service in Vienna. We also organise repatriations from Vienna to other locations in Austria and abroad.

In a public place
Your first steps
- You will be notified by the relevant authorities.
- The deceased will be transported to a morgue to determine the cause of death.
- Bestattung Wien will arrange everything for you upon request.
